New year, new challenges 🙂 Besides hosting the Lucky No.14 Reading Challenge, here are the other challenges I would like to participate this year:
2014 Mystery Book’s Club
Hosted by Hobby Buku, this is the second time I joined the challenge. Unlike last year, this year the challenge has specific theme for each month. I probably won’t join all of them, but I will host the one in March. Here are the themes and my reading list:
January: Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie R King, hosted by Fanda’s Book Shelf –> Beekeeper’s Apprentice.
February: Charles Dickens’s mystery books
March: John Grisham’s books, hosted by Books to Share –> The Racketeer, The Last Juror, The Street Lawyer
May: Sherlock Holmes series by Arthur Conan Doyle, hosted by Bacaan Bzee –> Petualangan Sherlock Holmes
July: Trio Detektif series, hosted by Hobby Buku –> titles TBD, but will join this one
August: JD Robb’s series, hosted by Ren’s Little Corner
September: Jeffrey Deaver’s books, hosted by Kilas Buku –> The Twelfth Card
History Reading Challenge 2014 – a Sail to The Past
This one is hosted by Fanda Classiclit, and I guess I’ve decided to try it to read something outside my comfort zone. I choose the Student Level (read 1-3 books) and so far only have one book to read for this challenge: The Devil in The White City (Erik Larson)
What’s in a Name 2014
This one became one of my favorites for the past couple of years. It has a new host, Charlie @ Wormhole, and very interesting categories:
- A reference to time (Eleven Minutes, Before Ever After): 4.50 From Paddington (Agatha Christie)
- A position of royalty (The People’s Queen, The Last Empress, The Curse Of The Pharaoh): Empress Orchid (Anchee Min)
- A number written in letters (The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, A Tale Of Two Cities): One Hundred Years of Solitude (Gabriel Garcia Marquez)
- A forename or names (Rebecca, Eleanor & Park, The Unfinished Work Of Elizabeth D.): The Narrative of John Smith (Arthur Conan Doyle)
- A type or element of weather (Gone With The Wind, Red Earth Pouring Rain): Cloud Atlas (David Mitchell)
What’s in a Name Reading Challenge 2014
Yes, this challenge has a similar title with the previous one, but I still want to join, although the host, Ren’s Little Corner, decided to shorten the challenge period into 3 month (it’s a pity actually). I chose “This is My Name” level, reading >15 books with name in the title until end of March. Here’s my reading list:
1. Eleanor & Park
2. Haunting Hiram
3. Where’d You Go, Bernadette?
4. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle
5. Pilate’s Wife
6. Cornelia and The Audacious Escapade of the Somerset Sisters
7. The Last Dickens
8. The Good Man Jesus and The Scoundrel Christ
9. Looking for Alibrandi
10. We Need to Talk About Kevin
11. My Uncle Oswald
